How to choose the right pixel pitch

Start with viewing distance, content and the size of your canvas.

Pixel pitch is the distance between the centers of adjacent pixels. A smaller pitch places more pixels into the same physical area, but the right choice depends on the project.

Start with the closest viewer

Measure the closest position from which people need to read or inspect the content. A distant roadside audience and a close-up meeting room have different needs. Avoid selecting a display from a single distance rule alone.

Work out the canvas

For a simple rectangular display, horizontal pixels are approximately screen width in millimeters divided by pitch in millimeters. A 4,000 mm-wide display at 2.5 mm pitch has approximately 1,600 horizontal pixels. Actual dimensions follow the selected module and cabinet layout.

Test the intended content

Small text, charts and fine details need more consideration than large moving images. Review a sample of the real content at the intended display resolution before finalizing the configuration.

Balance the complete project

Compare the display, processing, structure, power, installation and maintenance requirements together. Ask for a configuration-specific datasheet and a demonstration where possible.

This guide is general planning information. Confirm final technical requirements, installation responsibilities and applicable local requirements for the actual project.
